I’m going to wake up in the city that never sleeps.

As many of you know, New York has held a special place in my heart ever since I can remember. I fell in love with the likes of Sex and the City, Sleepless in Seattle, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Friends and The Devil Wears Prada, often daydreaming that I’d one day be able to strut my stuff through Manhattan, have a picnic in Central Park and whistle for a yellow cab! I fell in love with the Empire State, Broadway, the Upper East Side, Manhattan, Times Square and the whole concept of 24 hour American Diners (because yes, it does seem that in New York it’s perfectly acceptable to have breakfast pancakes at 11:30pm)

Anyway, this blog post isn’t an ode to New York but I do predict there’ll be quite a few of those in the foreseeable future. Instead, I am writing today to share some amazing news. After choosing to take a year out of university this year, work experience and internships seemed a logical path to pursue – they give you great experience in your career field, enable you to grow and mature, bring out a more independent, responsible side to your character and let’s not forget, look pretty nifty on the CV! Little did I realise when I began down this route, that I would land myself an INTERNSHIP IN THE BIG APPLE!!!!

(Pause for  gasp of disbelief – on my part)

I can still hardly believe it. For 3 months beginning in February, I will be jetting off to the city that never sleeps, residing in the Upper East Side (think Gossip Girl) – hey, I said the city didn’t sleep, I still have to! 2000px-i_love_new_york-svg

One day, I would love to write for a living, and was under no illusions about how competitive interviewing for this internship would be, especially when considering the location! But – I gave it my all nonetheless and now I’m sat here in my lounge, visa documents and forms surrounding me on the floor, typing away at this blog (still trying to convince myself that I’m not dreaming).

So there we have it. Family-orientated, home-bird Becky who has never travelled alone or journeyed far from the nest, has finally taken the plunge and is beginning an adventure that will no doubt remain imprinted in her mind forever.

I’m so incredibly grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity and can’t wait to share my experiences with anyone who wishes to hear about them. No doubt all my social media accounts will be spamming followers daily with pictures of the place I would love to one day call home.
